The Federal Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU 6002), Section 6002, requires the development and implementation of a Coordination Plan to provide for agency and public participation during the environmental review process for a project being evaluated in an Environmental Impact Statement. In accordance with SAFETEA-LU, VTA and the Federal Transit Authority have prepared a Coordination Plan for the proposed SVRT Project. The SVRT Coordination Plan details the agencies involved in the environmental review process, the opportunities for public participation, and the various coordination points where specific input from agencies and the public is requested. FTA NEW STARTS FUNDING
VTA elected to temporarily withdraw from the Preliminary Engineering phase of the FTA New Starts funding process with the intention of re-entering the formal review process in Final Design/Construction, when federal funding is needed. During this time VTA will work with FTA outside the formal process to improve the project’s competitiveness against other New Starts projects. The project schedule should not be affected by this action. VTA will continue to move forward with preliminary engineering, environmental and planning work.
Public involvement is an essential element of the BART to Silicon Valley project. If you are interested in obtaining further information, please e-mail vtabart@vta.org or call VTA Customer Service at (408) 321-2300 or TDD for the hearing impaired at (408) 321-2330.
